West Coast Elite Basketball Presents The Desert Challenge Press Release

Nation’s Elite to play in Rancho Solano Prep/West Coast Elite Desert Challenge


Scottsdale, AZ – November 29, 2017 – Top high school teams from around the nation will again be traveling to Scottsdale, AZ to participate in the Rancho Solano Prep and West Coast Elite Desert Challenge. Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV) and Oak Park (Oak Park, CA) and Windward School (Los Angeles, CA) headline the elite event as they take on top programs from Arizona.

            Findlay Prep, ranked as the preseason #8 team in the country by MaxPreps, gained arguably the biggest impact transfer of the year in #4 ranked Senior, Bol Bol. The 7’3” Bol recently committed to Oregon and last year led Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) to the CIF Open Division semi-finals. Findlay Prep also features 6 additional Division I commitments including 7’3” Connor Vanover (Memphis), Reggie Cheney (Arkansas), Kyler Edwards (Texas Tech), Jamie Lewis (Wake Forest), Nathan Mensah (San Diego State), and Jack Schwietz (UMBC).

            Oak Park comes to the Desert Challenge featuring one of the most talented and veteran rosters in California Led by Utah commit, 6’10” Riley Battin, averaging 28ppg/15rpg/3apg/2bpg, and Dartmouth commit Wes Slajchert, Oak Park will vie for the CIF Open Division Championship this season. 6’11” Senior Zeke Richards is one of the top unsigned players in southern California and Sophomore Clark Slachert is a top recruit in the 2020 class with offers already from CSU-Northridge and Pepperdine.

Windward School will feature arguably the most dynamic player in the Desert Challenge in 6’6” Jules Bernard. The UCLA commit led Windward in scoring, rebounds, and assists last season en route to the CIF Division 2AA Southern Section Quarterfinals.

The three top out of state programs will take on some of the best Arizona has to offer in Rancho Solano Prep (Scottsdale, AZ), Higley (Gilbert, AZ), and Corona Del Sol (Tempe, AZ_. Rancho Solano Prep is led by Rancho Solano Prep is led by 6’8” Air Force commit Nikc Jackson. A 2017 1st Team All-Arizona selection, Jackson currently leads the Mustangs in scoring (17.8ppg), rebounding (9.6rpg) and blocks (2bpg). The Mustangs also feature Senior guard Caden Hoffman (10ppg/6apg/6rpg) and top Sophomores 6’3” Kiimani Holt (17.2ppg/8.2rpg/2apg) and 6’9” Hunter Ruck.

Corona Del Sol, participants in the past six 6A/Division I State Championship Games, reload with top sophomore guards 6’4” Dalen Terry and 6’ Eric Blackwell. Both played large roles on last year’s state runner up as Corona looks to replace the departure of Alex Barcello (Arizona) and Saben Lee (Vanderbilt).

Higley returns to the Desert Challenge for the 2nd year featuring one of the top big man tandems in Arizona. The Knights got a boost from the transfers of 6’9” Shon Robinson who has offers from Florida State and UTEP, and the #10 ranked player in the 2020 class, Jason Harris. Harris has offers from Florida State, Arizona State, UNLV, and Grand Canyon.

Friday, December 15

7:00pm – Rancho Solano Prep vs. Windward School

8:45pm – Findlay Prep vs. Oak Park

Saturday, December 16

3:00pm – Corona Del Sol vs. Windward School

4:30pm – Rancho Solano Prep vs. Oak Park

6:00pm – Findlay Prep vs. Higley


Bobbi Barajas (Phoenix is Rising) and Wallace Moore (Director of Community Outreach, West Coast Elite Basketball) will be honored by President of West Coast Elite Basketball Ryan Silver at halftime of the Oak Park versus Findlay Prep match up for their contributions to the basketball community.


All Desert Challenge games will be played at Rancho Solano Preparatory School in Scottsdale (9180 E. Via De Ventura, Scottsdale, AZ 85258). Pre-Sold tickets are $10 available at Rancho Solano Prep. Tickets at the door will be sold for $15. Doors will open one hour prior to the start of each game.
