The San Diego Waves GUAA Program, directed by future Hall of Fame La Jolla Country Day Head Coach Terri Bamford, has joined the West Coast Elite UA Program. Together the two powerhouse organizations will continue to change the lives of student athletes, while competing at the highest level of girl’s HS Basketball.
“Terri Bamford is one of the most well respected coaches in girls HS basketball and has impacted the lives of hundreds if not thousands of athletes over her outstanding career,” said WCE President Ryan Silver. “Together we will be able to change more lives and send more athletes to college. We are thrilled and honored to have Coach Bamford on our team.”
Bamford is one of the winningest HS coaches in CA state history, leading her LJCD program to 533 wins, 15 league Titles, 15 SD Sectional Titles, nine Southern Section Titles, and four State championships. In 2020 Bamford was awarded the Naismith Coach of the Year award, WBCA National Coach of the Year award, and the MaxPreps Coach of the Year award.
“It is an honor to have Coach Bamford and the Waves Organization join forces with us at WCEUA. Terri is a phenomenal coach and person and this partnership will improve our mission of helping as many student athletes as possible,” said Director of Girls Basketball Sully Carter. “Her basketball expertise and connections are second to none, we could not be more thrilled to have her a part of the WCEUA family.”
Bamford has produced three McDonald's All American athletes in Candice Wiggins, Kelsey Plum, and Te-Hina Paopao. The SD Waves have been a GUAA program since the inaugural 2018-2019 Girls Under Armour Circuit where in year one they were considered a top contender.
Bamford commented, “I am thrilled to join the West Coast Elite organization where we will compete on the GUAA Circuit this summer. This is a great opportunity to compete at the highest level with some of the best talent around. Working with WCE is an exciting new chapter and I’m looking forward to building new relationships. I truly believe this is a win-win for everyone.”
Coach Bamford will be joined by former LJCD & Miami standout Latoya Cunningham. Latoya has played a pivotal role in developing athletes alongside Bamford. Coach Cunningham is a SoCal native and brings expertise from the D1 level.
