Desert Oasis Head Coach Laurie Evans was named the Director of the newly formed West Coast Elite UA Girls Las Vegas program on Monday.
On joining West Coast Elite Coach Evans said, "West Coast Elite UA has deep roots in the Las Vegas basketball community and now the next step is to focus on developing a program with national attention on the girls side. The attraction that formed this partnership is because WCE leads the country in ensuring that each and every player is focused equally on their athletic and scholastic careers. This new program will give the girls in Southern Nevada an opportunity to develop and be exposed on the highest platform all while making a positive impact in our community."
WCEUA is one of the top grassroots programs on the west coast and competes against some of the most talented players in the Under Armour Association. In year one WCEUA sent eight girls to the Division I level and now operates out of five different locations.
"We are very excited to continue to change and impact lives. Coach Evans is an amazing coach and person. We are all going to do great things together," WCEUA President Ryan Silver said.
Coach Evans joins the WCEUA Girls Program as one of the top high school coaches in the west. With 16 years of high school coaching experience, Evans has been named coach of the year six times, and holds an impressive 180-96 record. In her 11 years at Desert Oasis, Evans has taken a once struggling girls program and launched them into one of the top programs in the state.
WCEUA Girls Director Sullivan Carter said Monday, "We are thrilled to have Laurie [Evans] join the WCEUA Family. Her work ethic and experience is unmatched and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with such a high level person and coach. Together we will be able to help hundreds of girls and families in the Las Vegas area."
